Hon. Samantha P. Jessner

Hon. Samantha P. JessnerJudge Jessner was appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court in 2007. She is the Presiding Judge of the Court. She previously served as the Assistant Presiding Judge, Supervising Judge of the Civil Division, the Assistant Supervising Judge of the Civil Division, and the Supervising Judge of the Mental Health Courthouse. She also served in the Criminal Division.

Judge Jessner has served as a Co-Chair of the Technology Committee and leads the Court’s technology innovation efforts. Her dedication to court technology innovation was recognized by the American Bar Association when she was selected as one of 12 recipients of the ABA’s Legal Technology Resource Center’s 2021 Women of Legal Tech annual recognition. She has served on many court committees, including as Chair of the Civil and Small Claims Committee, Chair of the Court’s Bench-Bar Committee, Vice-Chair of the Ethics Committee, a member of the Civil subcommittee of the Operational Planning Committee, the governing committee of the Judicial Education Committee, and the Civil subcommittee of the Judicial Education Committee, among others.

Judge Jessner serves on the Supreme Court Committee on Judicial Ethics Opinions (“CJEO”) and the Executive Committee of CJEO. She also is a member of the Information Technology Advisory Committee and the Civil and Small Claims Committee of the Judicial Council. Judge Jessner is a New Judge Orientation Instructor for CJER. She is also an instructor for CJER’s ethics curriculum and has served on the Qualifying Ethics Work Group that develops and designs ethics curriculum. In addition, Judge Jessner teaches the Civil Law Update and Basic Civil Law Overview seminars for the Rutter Group. She is also a founding member of the Association of African American California Judicial Officers, a member of the National Association of Women Judges, and a member of The Trusteeship, which is the Southern California chapter of the International Women’s Forum.

Judge Jessner has received the following awards: the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, Ernestine Stalhut Award (2021); the John M. Langston Bar Association of Los Angeles, Bernard S. Jefferson Judge of the Year Award (2022); the California Women Lawyers Association, Joan Dempsey Klein Distinguished Jurist Award (2022); the Los Angeles County Law Library Beacon of Justice Award (2023); the California Association of Black Lawyers Judicial Excellence Award (2023); the South Asian Bar Association Judicial Appreciation Award (2023); the California Association of Black Lawyers Judicial Council South and Association of African American California Judicial Officers Black Gavel Award (2023); the Philippine American Bar Association Distinguished Jurist Award (2023); and the Los Angeles chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates Judge of the Year Award (2023).

Prior to joining the Court, Judge Jessner was an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California (Los Angeles) for approximately 11 years. Judge Jessner started her legal career as a litigation associate with the Los Angeles Office of Sheppard Mullin. In between two tenures at the United States Attorney’s Office, she was in-house counsel for The Boeing Company and an Assistant Inspector General for the Los Angeles Police Commission. Judge Jessner earned a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a law degree from Berkeley Law.

Myer J. Sankary, Esq. Myer J. Sankary has dedicated himself to educating the public on the benefits of mediation and providing affordable services to civil litigants. Under his leadership, MCLA has become a vital resource, recognized by the Los Angeles Superior Court as one of only three Vendor Resources for high-quality, reduced-fee mediation.

A member of the State Bar of California since 1966 and the San Fernando Valley Bar Association since 1996, Mr. Sankary has also been involved with the Provisors National Network of Professionals since 2000. Mr. Sankary’s distinguished career in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) began in 1985 with family law mediation.

MCLA celebrates Mr. Sankary’s retirement, reflecting on his numerous accomplishments and expressing our gratitude for his unwavering dedication to justice and community service. In the field, he is celebrated for integrating social and cognitive science into mediation practices, shaping the way conflicts are resolved.

Enrique G. Koenig, JDEnrique currently serves our local Los Angeles community by providing mediation services to families that live with complex relational issues. Enrique has been assisting families since 2012. Enrique is fully bilingual in both the English and Spanish languages. He has many years of business experience serving on organizational boards both in México and The United States. This experience has engendered in Enrique developed skills in management, human resources, negotiation and collaboration to accomplish set goals and objectives.

Enrique has many years of experience as a mediator providing mediation services in the greater Los Angeles area. Early in his mediation years Enrique served the Los Angeles County Superior Court as a volunteer in the party-select program. Thereafter, Enrique developed his training and practice in the family arena. He was admitted to The Association for Conflict Resolution in 2014 as an Advanced Family Practitioner. He then became a certified advanced family practitioner member of The Academy of Professional Family Mediators. Enrique is also a mediation panel member of Southern California Family Mediation beginning in 2017, serving families within the child dependency system in Los Angeles. He also provides mediation services in adoption related conflicts. Family dependency and adoption cases are unique and very complex cases to mediate. They usually involve parties that are in high conflict situations that require specialized training and skills that can only be developed over time. Enrique obtained MC3-Certification in 2022. MC3 focuses on an individual’s education, training and practicum exclusively within the area of mediation. In addition, Enrique has been inducted to AAAMediatin.org as an affiliate member.
